EGYPT & JOSEPH SMITH

Robin and I attended a fireside last night where Dr. C. Wilford Griggs spoke on the connections between JS and Egypt. Very interesting stuff! If you get the chance to hear him speak - do it. He explained how the pyramids were part of a larger temple, and how they had rituals that would sound very familiar to and LDS person who'd been to through the LDS temple. The above graphic shows a person who is being judged - on one side of the scale is his heart and on the other is a feather. To pass his heart must be found to be lighter than a feather, not weighed down with sins. I thought that was kind of fun. The guy on the left with the green face is a God who once was dead but has been resurrected. He's sitting behind a covering draped between the dead guy and his escort, the is talking to the green faced God about the guy who'd like entrance.

Dr. Griggs was showing how JS knew things that were unknown about Egypt in his time. He didn't say that the Egyptians had it right, but it was very interesting that there were shades and hints of the very things LDS people believe.

Plus I found this today and thought it was interesting: Egyptian names in the Book of Mormon

Professor Griggs spoke for an hour and a half - and we wished he would have gone another couple of hours - it was VERY interesting.

So was Griggs just making up stuff? Or did he have a solid basis?

CAF, the good Dr was right on. There are a lot of things that JS knew that are just now coming to light. I don't think he had to stretch at all to make the points he did.

I love stuff like this...I love to watch shows featuring the Inca's on the History Channel - they weren't all together right, but you can definitly see traces of the Gospel that they still had, but were confused about. It's all very interesting. When Ry & I went to the Talum ruins in Mexico we had an LDS native guide, and he showed us the gospel symbolism in their temples. Very cool.
